Hello!
My journey as an artist sort of took a circuitous route. I grew up near Chicago and graduated from Illinois State with a double major in Russian and Political Science, thinking I wanted to work in foreign service. While at college, my dad passed away unexpectedly and after graduation, I helped my mom with her business who was a floral artist. During this time, I began working with fabric dyes and paint, selling hand-painted fashions to boutiques around the Chicago area.
My work caught the eye of a Boston-based fabric paint manufacturer--- Tulip Polymerics---and I was recruited to work in new product development. Appearing on several ‘how-to’ tv craft programs on PBS, HGTV and Lifetime television, many of my designs have been published in BH&G, Good Housekeeping and various special interest publications.
Having moved to California in 2005, my career went in a different direction as I joined an agricultural manufacturing company heading up their sales & marketing organization while earning an MBA. I started taking watercolor lessons in earnest and throughout this time, I was doing shows on weekends--- still with a passion for art.
Painting has been a lifelong penchant, but I’ve always loved the beauty, fragility and color intensity of glass. I’ve always been intrigued by the science and discipline required to manipulate it into something of splendor! In 2017 I took a class from a noted glass artist in Laguna Beach, CA. I don’t know if it was the gorgeous setting near the ocean, the camaraderie of family or the actual project itself, but I knew at that point this is something I absolutely loved and wanted to pursue. Soon after, I started making jewelry with a microwave kiln, and a year later I purchased my first kiln…and now I have three!
Now residing near Charleston, SC with my husband and two cats, I am blessed to focus on my glass art, doing shows throughout the southeast. Using mostly frit and glass enamels, I employ a painterly approach to creating colorful images in nature using bright and often contrasting colors while building up depth and texture.
The hummingbird of Serendipity Studio symbolizes luck, joy and beauty, which I hope is bestowed to all!
